In the Big Bash League match between the Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers, the Thunder emerged victorious with a six-wicket win. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Scorchers found themselves in trouble early on, with three wickets falling in the first six overs. However, a strong performance by Ashton Turner, who scored 61 off 37 balls, helped lift the Scorchers to a total of 142/9 in 20 overs.
In response, the Thunder got off to a rocky start, losing both Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw for zero. However, Oliver Davies (58 off 47) and Matthew Gilkes (32) steadied the ship with a 67-run partnership for the third wicket. Alex Ross then came in and sealed the win for the Thunder with an unbeaten 41 off 18, finishing the match with three overs to spare.
In the other BBL match between the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, the match was abandoned due to rain after just one innings was completed. The Heat had been put in to bat and scored 147/6 in their 13 overs, thanks to quick-fire knocks from Michael Neser (45* off 18) and Colin Munro (38 off 14).
However, a strong performance by Steve O’Keefe, who took 3 for 26, helped slow down the Heat’s run rate and led to a slowdown in the middle overs. Nathan McSweeney (28* off 20) and Neser then added an unbeaten 56-run partnership to lift the Heat’s total.
