Cricket fans around the world are talking about Michael Neser’s incredible fielding effort at the boundary in the Big Bash League. During a match at the Gabba, Jordan Silk attempted to clear long-off but Neser intercepted the ball with a brilliant display of athleticism. He caught the ball and, realizing he was about to cross over the boundary rope, tossed it up and timed his jump perfectly to palm the ball back inside the boundary without touching the ground. He then returned to the field of play to complete the catch.

The catch was initially deemed fair by the umpires after reviewing replays, but it caused confusion among players, commentators, and fans. According to Law 19.5.2 of the MCC’s cricket laws, as long as the fielder’s first touch of the ball is inside the boundary line, they are allowed to finish the catch however they like, as long as their feet are not grounded with the ball over the boundary.

Neser’s catch was within the laws of the game, and the batter was correctly declared out.
