Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant airifted to Mumbai for further medical treatment after being involved in a car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway last week. Pant sustained multiple injuries to his head, back, knee, and ankle and has been receiving treatment at the Max Hospital in Dehradun.
Earlier the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Pant will be transported via air ambulance to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai. There, he will be under the care of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head of the Centre for Sports Medicine and Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital. Pant will undergo surgery and other procedures for ligament tears and will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team throughout his recovery and rehabilitation.
In a statement, the BCCI said, “The Board will make every effort to aid and expedite the recovery process of Rishabh and will provide him with all the support he needs during this period.” This is welcome news for Indian cricket fans, as Pant is a key player for the team, particularly in the longest format. Reports suggest that Pant’s injuries will keep him out of action for a minimum of six months, which could impact India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final in February-March. Indian fans will no doubt be hoping for Pant’s quick recovery and return to the field.
