Rishabh Pant, an Indian cricketer and the captain of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is facing a long hiatus from the game following a car accident that left him with a range of injuries. While the full extent of Pant’s injuries and his recovery period are not yet clear, it is highly unlikely that he will be able to participate in the four-Test series against Australia in February and March, or the IPL in April and May.
Pant sustained a number of injuries in the accident, including a ligament tear in his right knee, cuts on his forehead, and abrasions on his back, as well as injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe. He is currently convalescing in the Max Hospital in Derhadun and is believed to be in stable condition.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is responsible for Pant’s treatment and has stated that they will ensure he receives the best possible medical care. The exact nature of Pant’s treatment and the time required for his recovery and rehabilitation will not be known until the treatment for his ligament tear begins. The BCCI’s medical team is closely monitoring Pant’s progress and may fly him to Mumbai once he is able to travel.
There is also a possibility that Pant may be sent abroad for treatment, although no official comment on this option has been made as of yet. The BCCI has stated that it will do everything in its power to support Pant through this difficult and traumatic period and help him make a full recovery.
Pant was recently involved in the Test series against Bangladesh and had been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for a “fitness block” after being left out of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. His return to international cricket has now been delayed, and it will likely be some time before he is able to complete his recovery and rehabilitation.
In the meantime, Pant’s absence will be a significant blow to both the Indian national team and the Delhi Capitals. Pant is an integral member of both sides, known for his aggressive batting style and reliable wicketkeeping. His leadership and experience will also be missed on and off the field. It is not yet known who will step in to replace Pant as captain of the Delhi Capitals, or how his absence will affect the team’s performance in the IPL.
